Path to Play x RunReady Scholarship

The Path to Play x RunReady Scholarship Program exists to empower trail runners through education, access to health professionals, and community support—helping them build strength, skill, and confidence throughout the off-season.

From 1 on 1 mentorship with the Path to Play team to personalized programs and training with RunReady physiotherapists, our goal is to make trail running as accessible and diverse as the community we serve.

Each participant also receives an exclusive Nike Trail kit, provided with support from Nike Running.

How long is the program?

The Path to Play x RunReady Scholarship Program is a six-month scholarship, running from November 2025 to April 2026. It's designed to keep growth and development alive through structured support during the off-season.

What does the program include?

A complete off-season support system

Led by Path to Play co-founder and trail running mentor Francesca Knowles
Includes custom and optimized trail routes based on progression and education on backcountry trail running
Led by Path to Play co-founder and personal trainer Charissa Landicho
Includes custom and optimized training programs based on progression
Led by RunReady physiotherapist
Includes movement score on ABS (Absorb, Bounce, Stability), footwear matching, and personalized online exercise program designed to improve your score
Led by RunReady physiotherapist
Includes movement optimization and progressions to improve your score
A limited Nike Trail kit, reserved for program participants only.

Who’s Eligible?

Support for runners facing barriers

This scholarship is for individuals who have encountered difficulty accessing quality support to either discover or continue their journey in trail running. Whether due to financial, social, geographic, or educational barriers—if you love the sport but need help to keep growing—we want to help you keep moving forward, season after season.

  • Two spots are available for the inaugural scholarship.
  • Little to no trail running experience OR a desire for continued learning and progress.
  • Commitment to the full 6‑month term (Nov–Apr).
  • Barriers may include injuries/recovery, access to specialists, difficulty accessing trails/community/coaches or facilities.
  • One spot reserved for a Path to Play community member (attended at least one event).

Frankie's first love since moving to British Columbia four years ago is trail running. As a mentor, she brings play, community, and a love of movement to every run. With a focus on exploring safely in the backcountry, she helps make the trails feel fun, accessible, and full of possibility regardless of experience.

As a coach and B.Kin, Charissa brings 8+ years of experience working with a wide variety of movers—from sport-specific athletes, to those navigating diverse health challenges, to overall movement enthusiasts. Inspired by her own journey with post-concussion syndrome and mental health, she strives to empower movement longevity through physical literacy, meeting our bodies where they are at, and celebrating the incredible feats they are capable of.

Anyone who is passionate about trail running but has faced barriers in accessing coaching, physiotherapy, or structured support. Whether you're new to the trails or looking to build consistency into next season, we welcome your application.
No. The program is open to all levels—from curious first-timers to returning runners who want to progress with guidance and support.
For the inaugural scholarship, we will select 2 lucky applicants.
No. The scholarship covers the full program cost, including runs, training, physiotherapy sessions, and gear.
The program runs for six months (November–April) and includes monthly runs, training sessions, and physiotherapy sessions. Expect about 4 hours per month of direct programming, with additional check-ins and resources provided.
Applications will be available online starting October 1, 2025, and close on October 21, 2025. You'll be asked to share a bit about your background, your relationship with trail running, and what support would mean for you.
Between October 23 to October 29, three independent reviewers will each review all applications and each will choose their top 5 applicants. Francesca Knowles (Path to Play), Charissa Landicho (Path to Play), and Nick Lo (RunReady/RunAsYouAre) will review finalists with identities anonymous and select the 2 winners.
Recipients will be contacted between October 30 and November 1 so the program can kick off by early November.
Carpooling will be provided for anyone who does not have access to a vehicle. We encourage carpooling for all participants for sustainability.
Stay connected—RunReady and Path To Play will share resources, training tips, and future opportunities with everyone who applies.
